My Dear Wonderful Friends,I’m sitting in Logan Airport, Boston on a rainy Friday evening waiting for my flight home. I was up here visiting members of the Massachusetts Library Association. What a fun group of book lovers! No, wait, that’s the wrong description. Yes, they love books but they also love people and empowering them. That’s why they are librarians. Back in 1991, I attended a talk hosted by my local library that changed my life. Romance writer Christine Dorsey spoke on what it took to write a book and sell it. I took notes, followed everything she suggested, and here I am. In fact, any time someone asks me where to start to learn to write, I say, “The library.” Plus, librarians are fun too. I was also up in Pittsburgh for the Romantic Times Booklovers’ 25th Anniversary Convention. Loads of writers turned out to celebrate . . . including Fabio. Yes, I got to meet Fabio! Ever since I started writing, people have been asking me if I’ve met Fabio. Now I can say, “Yes.” He made an appearance at RT’s SOS benefit for our military families. No entourage, no fanfare, just Fabio. Listen, this man is big. I’m 5’7” and my head didn’t reach his shoulder. He was very nice, too. Exactly the sort of manners you would want from a celebrity. I mentioned I hated having my picture taken and he laughed and said it was nothing to him. Well, if I looked that good in all my press shots, I’d enjoy it, too. (Now to track down those pictures people took of the two of us!) Great news! I’ll be in New Orleans over Memorial Day for Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans Workshop. It’s going to be a great time in a great city. If you’ve felt the urge to write, join us! Let me dust off my soapbox and say that I love the opportunity to meet with fans of Romance and talk books. Fantasy, Science Fiction and Mystery writers have the opportunity to meet with their fans in almost every state. We should do it more often. Romance has the best fans in the world. For more info, check out www.crspring.com And talking books, many of you have asked if Marketing has changed the name of my next book since you are having trouble finding it. Of course they did. It was advertised in the back of IN THE HIGHLANDER’S BED as Seduction of a Highland Mistress. The new title is A SEDUCTION AT CHRISTMAS and it will be out November ’08. I can’t wait for you to read it. Fiona Lachlan’s story will be the beginning of a new series. As always, my connected books can stand alone but I know many of you like knowing when I’m following characters since you want to read them in order. Another fun thing I did recently was an interview for an Italian website. Some of my early books are being published in Italian and I’m having great fun communicating with readers from that beautiful country. If you would like to meet site owner Rosaria Kimbler and her readers, visit http://www.junerossblog.com/2008/05/cathy-maxwell.html The interview is in both Italian and English. Okay, they are about to call my flight. It will be good to be home. Ciao!
Where is THE PRICE OF BETRAYAL? It was advertised in the back of THE PRICE OF INDISCRETION, but it isn’t on the bookshelves. Marketing changed the name. They do that. They want to sell books and the title is an important part of making those sales. The new title is IN THE BED OF A DUKE. Much sexier, no? And the book has been flying off the shelves, so once again Marketing is right . . . Series— Every book stands alone; however, I do use recurring characters for some of my books. If you like to read them in order (and many people do), here is the list: Marriage Series— Married in Haste
Currently, I’m winding up a series that started with— The Temptation of a Proper Governess This last book will kick off a new series (if all goes as I think/hope/pray it will!)
I have just finished reading Married in Haste and I was curious about the main characters. In the excerpt that you wrote at the end of the book it sounded like the characters were real people. I did a search on the Internet and I could not find any information about them or Erwynn Keep. If you could possibly send me some links or let me know if I am looking under the wrong key words, I would really appreciate it. I have had hundreds of inquiries about the Earl and Countess of Merton. Some people are interested in the Erwynn Keep itself and others about the book of fairy tales “Welsh Magic.” Their interest stems from a piece at the very end of the book written as if it were in a modern travel magazine about the estate.
